Gingerbread House Building Party + Cocktail Recipe

Christmastime is especially magical when you’re a kid- the sparkling lights, glittering snow, the stories of Santa.  Their days are spent cutting paper snowflakes, drawing up lists, and making delicious gingerbread houses!

Inspired by our beautiful new “Sweet Holiday Wishes” kraft  gingerbread house print, we thought it was time for the adults to have some fun with a taste of childhood nostalgia by throwing a gingerbread house building party! Here are three simple steps to making a gingerbread house party for you and your friends!

1. Choose a color scheme

Most gingerbread kits come with a rainbow of sprinkles and bright colors, which is great for kids, but not so sophisticated for adults.  Throw out the purples and pinks and bring in simple, holiday colors!  I decided to stick with a white and red theme, which is classic and still elegant! Lay out all your ‘tools’ for guests to grab when inspiration strikes! I included candy cane Hershey kisses, sno caps, red and white M&M’s, and red hots.

Kraft paper makes for a rustic and practical table cover. Hand-letter each guest’s name at their place setting on the kraft paper. Once the gingerbread pieces and candy bits are displayed, the rest of the decor can be quite simple! Decorate your table using a centerpiece of sparkly tinsel garland and candy-filled clear glass jars! If you’re feeling particularly festive, holiday-themed paper cups can be cute as well.  We like the idea of including a Lily & Val sweet holiday wishes card at each place setting for you to include a nice note to each guest. Also, a little tip: skip the fuss and buy easy gingerbread kits!

It’s an adult party so mix up a cocktail with a fun twist!  If a gingerbread house collapses, the walls just turn into delicious cookies!  This is the perfect cocktail recipe for a gingerbread building party: a Cinnamon White Russian.

Cinnamon White Russian (Serves 1)

1 oz Simple Syrup (infused with two cinnamon sticks)

1 oz Vodka

1.5 oz Kahlua Liqueur

1.5 oz Heavy Cream, Half and Half, or milk of your choosing

To make a simple syrup, combine 1/2 cup of sugar and 1/2 cup water over medium-high heat with two cinnamon sticks until boiling.  Let simmer for 3-5 minutes, then turn off from heat and let cool.

In a cocktail shaker, combine ingredients and a heaping cup of ice.  Shake vigorously and pour into a cocktail glass.  To make extra special, rim the cocktail glass with cinnamon sugar mix!
