One of my favorite things to make in the fall is pumpkin butter! It is so easy and the result is like spreadable pumpkin pie for your morning toast or pancakes. You can also mix it into plain yogurt or oatmeal. Truth be told, I’ve even been known to eat it by the spoonful from the jar!
To make the pumpkin butter you will need:
29. oz can of pure pumpkin puree (not pumpkin pie filling)
1 cup brown sugar
3/4 cup apple juice or apple cider
1 tsp. vanilla extract
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. ground ginger
1 tsp. ground nutmeg
1/8 tsp. allspice
OR replace all individual spices with 2 tbsp. pumpkin pie spice
Juice from 1/2 a lemon
1 cup brown sugar
3/4 cup apple juice or apple cider
1 tsp. vanilla extract
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. ground ginger
1 tsp. ground nutmeg
1/8 tsp. allspice
OR replace all individual spices with 2 tbsp. pumpkin pie spice
Juice from 1/2 a lemon
In a saucepan, combine all ingredients (except lemon juice). Stirring frequently, bring mixture to a boil. Reduce heat to medium and simmer for 30 minutes, stirring occasionally. Remove from heat, add lemon juice, and let cool.
Once the pumpkin butter has cooled, pour into mason jars and refrigerate!
To make your homemade pumpkin butter just a bit more special, I’ve partnered with WorldLabel.com to create a series of downloadable, chalk art mason jar labels!
Just add the labels, tie with jute twine, and you have a perfect little fall gift for friends and family.
In addition to pumpkin butter, my jam collection includes apple butter, grape jam, raspberry jam, marmalade, strawberry jam, and peach jam! The best part is, these labels are FREE courtesy of World Label!
Download the collection here. I hope you enjoy them!

Wonderful labels to complete my first batch of jam thank you!!!
What king of paper is it stock?
Hi – I love the labels but was looking for some special labels for my pickles. If you had pictures of different veggies with a place to write what it was, it would work for me!!!
Hi Lily and Val! Love your labels! We are looking for a label for wild Blackberry preserves. Have you seen any?
OMG the Best of the Best labels ❤️, sadly no Blackberry labels!
I have never tried pumpkin butter before and your recipe sounds amazing! However, I’d like to make it to actually preserve in a canning method. Can this recipe be used for a hot water bath process, or pressure canned process? Or does it have to have any different ingredients to make it safe to can? Thank you!
