Hi, friends! I hope everyone had a wonderful Valentine’s Day. I just loved watching my social media feeds that day fill up with hearts, glitter, the color pink, and mostly HEARTS! My heart obsession is no surprise here. <3 This year for Valentine’s Day I decided to make Mak a handmade gift.ย I came across the very popular “date jar” created with popsicle sticks in a mason jar and I put my own little twists on it. This was such a perfect gift as so many of our discussions lately have been about living life to the fullest and saying “yes” to adventure and new experiences. Not to mention, it requires a lot of hand lettering to make the gift extra special. Here is what I came up with for our little jar:
I primed and painted the top of the mason jar lid with chalkboard paint (2 coats) and let dry. I drew “Mak and Val’s Date Jar” in chalk on the lid and then went over it with a white acrylic paint for permanency. The edges of the painted lid will scratch off a bit once you screw together the mason jar, but I did not mind. It looks so cute when it’s all put together and the center of the lid is what matters. ๐
To designate the different types of dates, I used washi tape on the backs of the popsicle sticks! I found this really great, coordinated set of washi tape from “Mind The Wrap” on Etsy and it was just perfect. The color/pattern combo is fun, but not too feminine. Five date categories were ideal and I broke them into: expensive dates/requires a plan, warm weather dates, cold weather dates, minimal planning dates, and dates at home. If the date was out and about, but close to our home or could be last minute I put it under minimal planning. Sushi night or visit a park would fit this category. Dates that are far from home or require reservations (like a bed & breakfast trip) were placed in the “requires a plan” category. The adorable striped card is from The Stationery Boutique. The cards come in sets of 12 with cute kraft paper envelopes and are great to have around if you’re in a pinch for a special, little card.
I had so much fun coming up with our dates, but found this resource helpful for ideas and this one. Part of the fun is customizing your jar to your interests and area. I just can’t wait for us to pull out a few of the adventures I have in there! Mak and I both agreed that whatever we pull out we will make it happen. How fun!
