Fresh weather is lifting our spirits! We’re ready to celebrate and spread the joy with our April Happy Mail idea, especially because it’s National Letter Writing Month! Check back in for fun snail mail surprises throughout April, both online and in-store. Now, buckle up and get ready to explore your creativity with us as we show you our inspiration for crafting a fun hand-written note.
Sending a good snail mail note is something very dear to our hearts here at Lily & Val. We believe little moments (like snail mail!) have a big power to make someone’s day. This idea is what began the Happy Mail series – our monthly giveaway and encouragement to send a little love.
Find Your Reason for Writing
There are countless reasons to send along a hand-written hello. The usuals are big events like birthdays, new babies, engagements, new jobs, etc. We like sending those! However, if a big event hasn’t occurred lately, look beyond the birthdays and bashes to something more simple. Tell someone how much you appreciate them – a “just-because” letter can bring the biggest smiles. Everyone loves to know they’re thought about. The “Happy Spring” card above is perfect for this season, if you’re really craving a topic!
Decorating & Embellishments!
There are so many ways to add a little pop to your hand-written letters. On the envelope shown above, we got a little crazy with the washi tape (and we wouldn’t have it any other way). Grab some colorful washi that matches your card and have at it! Make a border, surround the address area with it, or use it to seal it shut. The envelope at the very top was decorated with simple strokes using a colorful Tombow marker and a fun stamp to match our hand-drawn “Sending You Love” card.
Layer with stickers! On this envelope to my mom, I used these Lily & Val stickers and layered washi tape to distract her from my awful handwriting!
We used the Lily & Val Flagship Store‘s official Sign & Seal Station to craft the envelopes above. Basically, the station is our own oasis of everything you need to personalize a card while in the store. If you can’t visit Pittsburgh yet to try it out, you can stock up on stickers, rubber stamps, markers, white out, and whatever else strikes your fancy to create your own version. While you’re at it, we have suggestions for creating a Snail Mail Organizer in your home, too!
The Big Idea
We created this series to inspire you to connect with your buddies by sending more snail mail surprises! Happy mail doesn’t need to be on a big budget or a large scale. If you create a bit of happy mail inspired by ours, we would love to see! Use #lilyandvalhappymail on Instagram!
We want share a little postage love with one of our readers – head on over to our Instagram to enter to win a special snail mail package.
